NEWCASTLE United and England legend Alan Shearer OBE turned Mr Motivator when he visited Ponteland Middle School.
During the school's assemblies he spoke about motivation, having the right attitude, being punctual, being determined, and getting through setbacks.
Shearer, who was capped 63 times, scoring 30 goals for his country, then toured the school, praising staff and pupils for their support of the Showing Racism the Red Card campaign and giving his backing to ambitious plans for a new multi-use games area.
Before leaving, he also signed footballs and shirts and sent a good luck message to the year seven boys playing in the national cup quarter final in Hull. It worked - the team won on penalties.
