Sewage causes a stink at Prudhoe Castle

THE splendour of Prudhoe’s main visitor attraction, its medieval castle, is being lost amid the stench of sewage, residents and councillors have claimed.
Although Northumbrian Water is adamant it has found no evidence of contamination from its drains, numerous walkers have reported foul smells coming from the pond outside the castle, which has also been described as discoloured and lifeless.
Prudhoe, which some claim is overdeveloped given its topography, has long been prone to flooding and drainage problems.
In recent months, many of the complaints have centred around the area near the Grade 1 listed castle, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
