PRUDHOE Town Council looks set to pull out of the Northumbria in Bloom competition.
Although the town picked up a silver gilt in the latest awards presentation, the judges were critical of some aspects of the town, leading former mayor Coun. Jennifer McGee to suggest the judges were biased in favour of certain towns and villages.
At the latest meeting of the town council’s planning, contract and works committee, councillors agreed time and money would for now be better spent on other projects.

THREE watercolour paintings donated by Queen Mary were auctioned off to raise money for a new Darby and Joan club in Hexham.
A site had already been bought, but a further £6,000 was needed to run the club for the elderly.
The auction, opened by Viscountess Allendale, saw the paintings raise over £8 for the fund.
