THE technical director of Prudhoe company SCM Pharma has taken part in one of the world’s oldest cycling races in Belgium.
Neal Wesley undertook the gruelling 260km Tour of Flanders in aid of North-East disability charity the Percy Hedley Foundation, based in Newcastle.
Mr Wesley, who lives in North Tyneside, said he chose the charity as he regularly cycles past one of its sites.
“I have seen how many children, young people and adults benefit from the work of the Percy Hedley Foundation,” he said.
“My wife’s brother, Stevie, had cerebral palsy so I understand how enormous the benefit and support of such an organisation can be.
“I also think the foundation has a really positive influence on people’s perception and understanding of those living with disabilities.”
During his time in Belgium, Mr Wesley also took part in the amateur version of the Ronde van Vlaanderen Cyclo road race, a highlight of the European cycling calendar.
His efforts for the Percy Hedley Foundation, which was founded in 1953, have so far raised around £170.
