Ponteland councillor hurt in crash

A COUNCILLOR from Ponteland is recovering after being injured in a car crash in the Manchester area.
Coun. Veronica Jones, who represents Ponteland West on Northumberland County council, was returning from visiting one of her three daughters when her Citroen car was involved in a collision with another van last Friday night.
Firefighters had to cut her from the car and she was taken to hospital with breathing difficulties, cuts and bruises.
She remained there for two nights before returning to her daughter’s home to recover.

Saturday, June 20th, 1885Over 2,000 people attended the Temperance Gala held at Greencroft Park, Haltwhistle.
Led by the Bardon Mill Brass Band, 12 temperance societies paraded through the town, prior to an open air meeting in the park.
During the event the Rev. J.M. Russel condemned the House of Commons for rejecting a proposal to increase taxes on spirits and beer.
