Plans revealed for fire station at Hexham Hospital

PLANS to build a £1m fire station to the rear of Hexham General Hospital go out to public consultation on Friday.

Hexham General Hospital

The nine-week consultation will enable the community to have its say on plans to move the fire service away from the present discredited fire station on the Tyne Mills Industrial Estate.
The scheme is the result of close partnership working between Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust which manages the hospital.
The project will involve altering and extending the existing buildings to the rear of the hospital site and will have no impact on day-to-day running of the services.
As part of the scheme, the existing fire station will be modernised, and become part of the county council’s Tyne Mills depot which is home to the council’s bin wagons, snowploughs and highways maintenance fleet.
However, it remains unclear what will happen to the site at the west end of the town which was the original choice for a new fire station site.
