They defied heavy rain to give a rousing welcome to the torchbearers in Prudhoe, Stocksfield, Hexham and Riding Mill.

The scenes in Prudhoe were described as extraordinary, as the town's Wendy Neal carried the Torch along Front Street.

And streams of people were along the entire Relay route through Stocksfield.

Likewise, there were huge crowds of people in Hexham as teenager Josie Hart was the first torchbearer through the town.

In Riding Mill, the Torch was given a rousing send-off on the last leg of the Relay in Northumberland.

The Torch stayed overnight in Durham, before setting off on Sunday morning on route to its next stopover in Middlesbrough.
