THIS Saturday, from 10am, it is the Cancer Research UK spring fair at Wylam Institute. Stalls include cakes and produce, plants, bric-a-brac, raffle and the ever popular Easter egg tombola.
Any contributions for any of the above stalls or help on the day will be most welcome.
AND at 7.30pm Elijah, Felix Mendelssohn’s great choral work, performed by Ryton Choral Society, conducted by David Murray, is at the King’s Hall, Newcastle University.
Excellent soloists include Jonathan Gunthorpe (baritone) and Alwyn Mellor (soprano). Tickets are available from Janet Palmer, on (01661) 853786.
ON WEDNESDAY, April 8, Men at Home will hear Patrick Eavis talk about the Hexham riot of 1761.
LAST Sunday there was a great gathering in St Oswin’s Church hall to celebrate what had been achieved for this year’s WaterAid Ethiopia Project – almost £7,500.
The soup lunch was much appreciated, as was the choir from Wylam First School which charmed the assembly, singing African response chants and songs written for WaterAid by Richard Stilgoe and first school teacher Helen Bennett.
AN APPRECIATIVE audience of nearly 50 adults and children watched Shrek the Third at the children's film club on Saturday.
Due to the success of the trial two more films are booked for the last Saturdays in April and May – all at 2pm in Wylam Institute – Toystory 2 on April 25 and newly released Madagascar 2 on May 30.
