Haltwhistle coach firm transports soccer legends

GAZZA, Alan Shearer, Lothar Matthaus, Peter Shilton, John Barnes, Peter Beardsley...and Craig David.

These were just some of the legends that were transported by Haltwhistle coach firm Tynedale Group Travel (TGT) to Sunday’s charity football match in honour of Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle United’s St James’s Park.

TGT brought both the England team, made up of ex-footballers and celebrities, and the Germany team to the stadium from their respective hotels.

Its coaches were caught on camera by ITV4, which broadcast the game live.

TGT managing director, Andy Sinclair, said: “Sometimes people can be unapproachable, but these stars were all down to earth.

“The banter on the bus was fantastic, and they were all looking forward to the match,” he said.

“And it was amazing how many emails we got from people around the world who tuned in to watch it and spotted our coaches on the TV.”

TGT donated the money it would have received for the job to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, as it is a charity close to its heart.

Mr Sinclair said: “Sunday was a very moving day. We were sat about four seats from Bobby, and there is no-one else as highly respected around the world.

“We couldn’t wish to be involved in a better cause for such a fantastic man.”
