Go local, ditch the plastic

GREENHEAD goes green this weekend, doing its bit to reduce the environmental damage caused by plastic bags.

Shoppers who visit the village's farmers’ market on Sunday between 10am and 2pm are invited to bring their plastic carrier bags to be recycled.

In return for old plastic bags, Hadrian’s Wall Heritage will give out reusable jute bags branded with the “Locally Produced” logo.

The HWH organisation has launched the initiative at Greenhead as part of its commitment to make Hadrian’s Wall Country a fine example of sustainable development.

The farmers’ market at Greenhead has been running for nearly three years and takes place every second Sunday of the month.
