THE tractors and combines have been hard at work so it must be time for harvest events.
Slaley First School is holding an apple-themed event, which will culminate in the planting of a tree, at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, Slaley Methodist Church’s renowned harvest celebrations take place on Sunday, October 5, with a service conducted at 10.45am and then a united evening service at 6pm.
This is followed on Monday, October 6, by a concert of musical items, chaired by John Wilkinson, followed by a sale of produce by Alec Bisset, with a supper after that.
Everyone is very welcome to come along and enjoy the entertainment.
VICKY Ridley has asked me to pass on this message about Slaley’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which last week raised over £550 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Many thanks to everyone for their generous donations and for coming along to support the charity.A big thank you to the team of helpers who make the morning possible, and we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.
SLALEY Leek Show is this Saturday, with exhibits to be benched by 1pm. The hall will be open for viewing from 3.30pm, when you can wander round and see who won what, and contemplate whether you could have done better. There will be tea and cakes available, and a sale of produce at 6pm. It’s a lovely show, with people coming from far afield, so do come along.
LOTS of children and parents from Slaley First School are doing the mini Great North Run tomorrow, so good luck to them.
A REMINDER that the next film club is on Friday, October 17, showing The Jane Austen Book Club. It’s a pleasant way to watch a film, with a themed supper thrown in with the cost, and the option to bring your own bottle.
CHRISTMAS is coming, and with this in mind the talented Brenda Hutchinson is organising a series of practical card-making workshops. This is an opportunity to be introduced to the world of paper craft techniques including stamping, découpage, embossing and more.
The workshops is for five sessions, starting on Saturday, October 25, from 10am until noon in the Commemoration Hall. Please ring Brenda on (01434) 673269 to book your place.
NEXT week’s medicine run volunteer is Linda Norris.
