NEARLY 200 people were packed into Elsdon Village Hall on Friday, September 5, for a Northumbrian Evening.
The artists, including some from County Durham and from over the Scottish Border as well as from all parts of Northumberland, provided an evening of enjoyable and amazing entertainment.
There were performances by singers, musicians, poets, comedians and a clog dancer.
The event, which raised £753, was organised by the artists themselves to help towards the cost of refurbishing the hall.
Thanks are due to all those who supported the evening.
The next event in Elsdon village hall is a performance by the Northumberland Theatre Company of These things do happen, described as an honest, affectionate and often hilarious play about farming life in Northumberland in the 1930s and 1940s.
This will be on Wednesday, September 24, starting at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from (01830) 520477 or at the door.
THE old post office in Otterburn opened again last week, this time as a general dealer.
Proprietors Sue and Clive Oddy, whom many will already know from their other shops at Scots Gap and Barrasford, offered a warm welcome to their first customers.
The shop has a traditional village shop sign picturing an otter.
Groceries, dairy and frozen foods, beers, wine and spirits are all on sale. Fresh bread will be delivered daily from Greenwell’s bakery in Rothbury and George Jennings will supply fruit and vegetables.
Hot and cold sandwiches will be available to order and speciality breads, rolls and savouries will be baked on the premises.
Sue and Clive will also be selling a small range of toys and gifts and a good selection of greeting cards for all occasions.
THE recent exhibition and sale at Otterburn Mill, organised by Byrness Arts and Crafts Group, was very well attended and made over £250.
Thanks to the generous support of Euan Pringle, who donated the use the exhibition space, the group was able to give £50 to the Great North Air Ambulance.
The group has also organised a “light-hearted and non-threatening” drawing and painting course entitled Drawing into abstraction.
The four-session course commences on Tuesday, at 7pm. Cherry Money will give a demonstration of paper making techniques and uses on Tuesday, October 14, at 7pm, and will have some materials for sale.
For more information telephone Sue Moorhouse on (01830) 520304.
