Tea and a toast for old friends

THEY may have a combined age of 214, but Sarah Hart and Polly Simpson have proved they’re still capable of surprising each other.
The pair met as children and were close friends until around 45 years ago, when they stopped going to bingo together and gradually lost touch.
Recently, they learned they shared the same chiropodist, and began to send messages back and forth, but it wasn’t until this week that coincidence reunited them in person.
Polly (106) booked in for a week’s respite at Prudhoe’s Red Brick House care home after the heating at her Crawcrook home went on the blink.
Little did she know that her old friend Sarah (108) was a resident there – and eager to chat well into the night about old times.
“I was so surprised when she arrived and it’s lovely to see her,” said Sarah. “It’s been about 45 years.”
“We’ve had lots to discuss,” said Polly.”
