I RECEIVED news from Carole Hedley this week concerning two recently completed projects in Otterburn.
Carole said: “I am sure everyone will agree that the new wall at St. John’s church is absolutely lovely. The committee would like to thank Harry and David Scott for doing this job so well and we are truly indebted to Alan Ormiston for levelling the ground and to Alan and Andrew Dodd for lending their machines. So many people have helped us with this project by giving their time or their equipment without charge.”
Carole continued: “The school field has also been drained, ploughed, levelled and reseeded this week. Parents, grandparents and even people with no direct link to our school have helped. We needed to use old tractors and ploughs as the drains were quite shallow so we are indebted to Davy Wallace and Alan Hutchinson for bringing their equipment along. They have made a really wonderful job of it all. We are very really lucky to have such committed people in our community.”
THE Rede, Tyne and Coquet sports centre is holding a Battle Day music festival and open day this Sunday, August 29, between 2pm and midnight.
There will be live bands, a raffle and hog roast and the bar will be open all day. Children’s activities will include dance mats, trampolines, a bran tub, and tee shirt painting. In the early evening there will be a Redesdale's Got Talent Show for any budding artists, both children and adults.
The organisers also hope to hold a five-a-side football tournament at the festival, kicking-off at 1pm. Entry to festival will be free for all players. Those interested in entering a team should contact the organisers.
THE next of the twice-yearly collections in the valley in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance will be held on Wednesday, October 6.
FOLLOWING their successful appearance at Elsdon village hall last May, the popular folk music group Standing Stones will perform again in concert at the hall next Saturday, September 4. They will be joined by Airs and Graces, a group from the South-West of England.
The concert starts at 7.30pm. The bar will be open and supper will be served. Tickets are available at the door or from Alison Simmance who can be contacted by telephone on (01830) 520417.
