THE Redefest Music Festival is being held on the Camien café field, Rochester, next Saturday, August 7, starting at noon.MEMBERS of the Northumberland branch of the Dry Stone Walling Association visited Redesdale last Sunday and enjoyed a morning tour of the Black House at Catcleugh in the company of a Northumberland National Park ranger.

Twelve musical acts will feature, including favourite local performers such as Jessica Lamb and Cross the Wannies.

There will be a return performance by Honey Fungus from Wales and the Ska-toon – a band described as “playing covers from the likes of Madness, Bad Manners, UB40, Bob Marley and many others, all played with a very high standard of musicianship and brilliant vocal harmonies” – will close the evening.

The festival includes story-telling sessions with Jim Grant and an all-join-in folk session with Brian Read.

There’ll also be a bar, freshly cooked food, activities for the children and stalls.

The festival is sponsored again this year by a number of local businesses and organisations.

The visit included a talk about the Black House and a woodland walk to view the meter house, the overflow spillway and the Catcleugh dam and pump house.

Afterwards the visitors met at Lantern Haugh, Otterburn, for their annual barbecue.

IF YOU have not already visited the Black House and Catcleugh site, tours are being organised on each of the five Sundays in August with National Park rangers on hand to guide you.

There are two sessions each Sunday, one at 11am, the other at 2pm. A ranger will meet visitors at the gated entrance to the site; please plan to arrive ahead of the starting times.
