A BUDDING engineer at Highfield Middle School in Prudhoe has been named runner-up in a national Lego building competition.
Year five pupil Matthew Stanton was one of 30 at the school to submit a design for the challenge set by the National Schools Partnership.
In an effort to encourage science and engineering within schools, pupils were given the task of creating vehicles that were capable of carrying Lego passengers.
Ten-year-old Matthew’s design earned him £125 worth of Lego for himself and the same for his school.
Head of science Colette Laidler, who organised the Lego build, said: “Science, technology and engineering are all essential components in our modern world.
“It’s great that this competition allowed our future scientists and engineers the opportunity to use their creative skills to such a good effect.”
The school intends to use its new Lego kits for technology lessons.
