HORSLEY Garden Club Flower Show will take place on Saturday, August 7, at the Crown and Anchor.

Entries are invited for the following categories: buttonhole; vase of flowers; hanging basket or planter; sunflower; and scarecrow. All entries need to be in place on the display benches between 3pm and 4pm.

Members of the public will be able to examine the entries from 7pm, by which time the judging will have been competed.

This promises to be a very colourful event and it is hoped that as many members as possible will take part.

In the meantime, there is now a box of items of interest to gardeners in the Crown and Anchor. This includes photographs taken during the recent visit to Harlow Carr and a set to show the progress with the allotment.

READERS may have noticed a vehicle parked on Water Lane on a few occasions recently and wondered what the purpose was of the equipment erected nearby.

This was all part of a survey of the strength of radio signals on behalf of Northumberland County Council.

THERE have been some changes to the bus service in Horsley with Go North-East taking over the twice daily 687 service to Hexham.

Observations suggest that few residents use this service, although it provides the only single journey link to Wylam, Ovingham and Ovington.

The route continues via Corbridge to Hexham and, though it takes longer than the 685 Carlisle service, provides a quite scenic detour.

It would be a pity if the low usage level led to the loss of this service.

Service 685 remains shared between Arriva and Stagecoach North West.

DETAILS of the church services for August are not yet to hand, but they are likely to be displayed on the church noticeboard before the end of the month.

BOOK club meets on Friday, August 6, at 4pm at the Hearth.
