Hexhamshire news

A WHOLESOME meat pie, with a mushy pea accompaniment, delicately drizzled with a mint vinaigrette dressing is just the fodder for race nights.

It brought punters from the length and breadth of the ’Shire, and as far afield as Slaley and Ponteland in the east, and Hexham to the north.

It was a raucous night of teeth gritting stamina for the jockeys winding in their steeds, and a great deal of excitement for the rest of the revellers as bets were made, won and lost with the overall gain being for Hexhamshire Leek Club Funds.

Thank you to all who made the evening a success.

THE ’Shire walk is this morning, Friday, March 5; meet at the parish hall at 9.30am.

THE willow on Dilston College’s section of the Quakers’ Hole is thriving now that the rabbits have been excluded from the area and the students are harvesting it and offering bundles for sale.

If anyone is interested, get in contact with Derek Hull on (01434) 673583.

MUDDY progress continues on the sports field, with three weeks and five days to go before the deadline.

Will we do it? Of course we will.

If you are free on March 27 for an hour, or even longer, come along to help plant shrubs and do the last minute cosmetic bits.

The “Big Dig” starts at 1pm; bring a picnic and be part of the team that brings the new play area to life.

For more information contact (01434) 673762 .

THERE will be a family service on March 14 at 9.30am for Mothering Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend this service of worship, when spring posies will be given out.
