Festival's repeat performance

POPULAR demand for a specialist bird walk planned as part of the spring Haltwhistle Walking Festival has resulted in an extra leg of the event.
The 12 spaces limited for the woodland bird walk to take place in the town on May 1 have already been snapped up by enthusiastic wildlife lovers.
With inquiries still flooding in for the event, walk leader Nick Leeming, a local amateur bird spotter, will run an identical walk on April 25.
Between 30-40 different bird species are expected to be spotted on the walk, as walkers stroll alongside the banks of the River South Tyne.
Inquiries for another similar event have not been so forthcoming, however.
The Lazy Dawn Chorus, which will see participants set off at 7am on May 2 in the search of birds, has attracted only one entry so far.
