Corbridge teenager dies after roof fall

AN 18-YEAR-OLD from Corbridge has died after falling 30 feet from the roof of a farm building and landing on a concrete floor.

The Great North Air Ambulance, a rapid response crew and an ambulance were called to Heddon Low Farm, at Heddon on the Wall, on Friday after Jamie Lee Duddin fell from the roof of a barn.

The teenager, who was employed by the Great Whittington-based steel fabricating company Scott’s of Whittington and is understood to have been working for them at the time, was airlifted to Newcastle General Hospital with serious head injuries.

Jamie was in a critical condition when he arrived, and spent the weekend in intensive care on a life support machine.

The former student at Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth High School died in hospital on Sunday.

Since then friends and colleagues of the popular youngster, who also attended Whitley Chapel First School and Hexham Middle School, have been posting moving tributes on the social networking site Facebook.

An inquest in to Jamie’s death was opened and adjourned in Newcastle on Tuesday.

A joint investigation between the police and Health and Safety Executive is ongoing.
