Allen Valley news

LAST weekend an open garden event at Wentworth Place, Allendale, raised a fantastic £500 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service. Very well done to the organisers.

KEENLEY Methodist Chapel is holding a Camp Meeting Service on Sunday, August 1, at 3pm, with conductor Bill Stoddart, from Ryton, and soloist Jim Laidlaw, from Acomb. There'll be tea afterwards.

THE Allendale Lions Club Beer and Bands Festival will be held on Sunday, August 22.

ON SATURDAY, July 31, it’s the Cliff Calvert Lions Golf Classic at Allendale Golf Club.

There will be serious and not quite so serious competitions, plus some rather spectacular prizes – for example, if you get a hole in one at the ninth, you can win a brand new car!

There are other substantial prizes too!

You can eat, drink and generally make merry, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.

ORGANISERS of the Allendale Horticultural and Industrial Show have informed me that the entry date for the garden competition has been extended until Saturday, August 28.

THE next farmers’ market at Allen Mill will be on Sunday, August 15, and every third Sunday until the weather breaks – hopefully in the very late autumn!

You can purchase rare breed meats, cheeses, organic vegetables, preserves and lots of other items.
