Haydon Bridge news

THE fifth annual flower and vegetable show will take place at the Railway Hotel tomorrow. All entries must be benched by 1pm with judging taking place at 2pm. There will be cash prizes awarded to the biggest and the best! Andy Milburn will be providing the entertainment in the evening from 8.30pm, with a free supper and the raffle draw adding to the entertainment.

Horsley news

LAST Saturday, around a dozen of the congregation of Horsley village church attended the away day at Shepherd’s Dene. They enjoyed teas and a walk round the gardens in fine weather. The service this Sunday will be led by Helen Weatherly, commencing at 11am. Those readers who are in possession of the monthly handbill for the church will be aware that the date of this last August service was given as Tuesday, August 31, but the date has been amended on the church website.

Allen Valley news

THE weather turned out to be pretty good all weekend for the agricultural show and the beer and bands festival. Everyone seemed to have a pleasant time. It was really nice to see more livestock than in recent years. I can tell any worried onlookers that the little girl who was dragged along the race track by a big chocolate labrador dog, sustained only a very minor injury and was successfully treated with ice cream! Thanks to all of the extremely hard working organisers of both events – it was a smashing weekend.

Riding Mill news

RIDING Mill Choral Society will start rehearsing for their next concert on Monday, September 6, at 7.30pm in the parish hall, Millfield Road. This year there will be two concerts; the first will include John Rutter’s Requiem and Mozart’s Coronation Mass and will be on November 12. The second will be nearer Christmas and will be traditional carols.

Leek club members and club members with produce for the horticultural produce show are reminded that all items must be benched from 6pm until 7.30pm There will also be an open section for photographs to be entered within the same timetable. Details of show schedule are available at club. On Friday, the total show of leeks and produce will be open for viewing to members and non members from 7pm until 10pm.
