Greenhead news

MUCH relief that the road works on the A69 seem to be just about completed so access to the various parts of Greenhead is now easier! The volume of traffic now carried on that road is huge – and was particularly noticeable in the village centre at 5am the other day when an accident had closed the A69! It would appear to be a popular time for very large wagons to travel, not all of whom found the bank up the Military Road easy to negotiate.

Wall news

THE annual Steeplechase Day takes place on Saturday, September 11, which raises money for the Northumberland Historic Churches Trust. The idea is to visit as many churches as you can on the day, and hopefully be sponsored. In the evening there is a social occasion in Humshaugh village hall where you can recount your experiences of the day to other volunteers. This starts at 7pm and do bring some food for a pooled supper and some drinks.

Wark news

THE shock news that the county council is going to do work on the bridge a few weeks ago will by now have sunk in. And, if everything goes according to plan, the first bits of work will begin to happen this week. The idea to spread the work (and the cost) over a number of years is a pretty crafty one and county council staff deserve recognition for this creative bit of thinking. It’s also clear that the persistence of Coun. Edward Heslop, the parish council and the people in and around Wark is beginning to pay off.

THE new notice board in the village looks excellent. Well done to the parish council. As usual it is not just for parish council notices but for any organisation or event that will be happening in the village. However, in order to deter commercial notices being put in it the notice board is locked. If you need to put a notice in it please contact Mike Binks (01434) 681741.
