MP urged to back middle school campaign

CAMPAIGNERS fighting proposals to close Allendale Middle School have enlisted the help of Hexham’s MP Guy Opperman.
The group wants Mr Opperman to put a series of critical questions to Northumberland County Council’s education officers on their behalf.
They feel officers are not addressing their concerns about plans to either convert Allendale Middle into a academy, or close it and turn Allendale, Whitfield and Shaftoe Trust first schools into primary schools.
Allendale parish councillor Marc Hydleman has been compiling the list – which includes a question about the future of the middle school site – with the help of the wider community.

The Miners' Hall at West Wylam was officially re-opened after undergoing extensive renovation.
Built as a cinema with a sloping floor 15 years previously, a ladies' cloakroom had been added and the floor levelled to turn it into a dance hall.
The work cost £500, half of which came from the Northumberland Miners' Association.
