MP calls for return of Tynedale Council

HEXHAM'S MP Guy Opperman has called for the restoration of Tynedale District Council.
Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Mr Opperman said Northumberland County Council should be disbanded unless there were serious improvements in its performance.
The restoration of the Tynedale district authority would show a genuine commitment to localism, he said.

Tynedale Council was abolished in 2009, and its powers were transferred to an all-powerful Northumberland County Council.

I agree with our MP, this area is totally disregarded by the County Council. Bring back Tynedale Council as soon as possible, run by people with local knowledge. Bring fairness back where parking charges are concerned. People are discouraged from visiting our lovely area and even local people are put off going into Hexham brecause of the parking problems.

Have your say
Again, I'm another who never imagined I would agree with something a Tory said. NCC is grossly out of touch with the needs of Hexham and wider Tynedale - They have sold (or rather, are attempting to sell) the family silver (Hexham House etc..) and have no interest in arresting the continued decline of the town.
