Missing Whitfield man safe and well

A 77-year-old man who sparked a major police search operation after going missing from his Whitfield home has been found safe.
At 5pm on Thursday, Northumbria Police confirmed John Norman Barker had now returned home and was safe and well.
He went missing in the early hours of Thursday morning and police said they were concerned for his welfare.
Officers began a detailed search of the Whitfield area and asked anyone who saw him or knew where he was to contact them immediately.

AT a public meeting in Wylam Institute it was decided to split the remaining money in the village's peace celebration fund between the village schools and a planned war memorial to the Fallen.
A brass plaque bearing the names of 19 former students who died in the Great War was to be erected in the Wylam Council Schools at a cost of £20 and £30 was to be donated to the war memorial fund.
