McCormick misses out on Olympics final

DESPITE recording his second fastest time ever in the 5000m, Hexham athlete Nick McCormick failed to make the London 2012 final.
The 30-year-old former Tynedale Harrier was in a fast second heat and his time of 13 minutes and 25.70 seconds was not enough to see him finish in the top 10 which would have booked his place in Saturday evening’s showdown.
But Nick can be proud of his performance, his time actually quicker than some of the runners who automatically qualified with a top five finish in the other heat.
It was Nick’s Olympic debut and, although he had a final appearance in his sights, he will forever cherish his London experience.
He said: “I am really pleased because I did everything I could and it was my second best time ever in the 5000m. I have loved every minute of the Olympics, even though I’m a little disappointed I didn’t get to the final.”
