Kielder's dark sky bid backed

A BID to create England's first Dark Sky Park at Kielder has won the backing of the world-renowned Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics in Manchester.

Kielder dark skies

Kielder Water and Forest Park Development Trust, Northumberland National Park Authority and Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society are applying for an area - which would cover 400 square miles of Northumberland - to be given Dark Sky status.
If successful, Northumberland National Park would be designated Europe's largest Dark Sky Reserve.
Jodrell Bank is a world leader in radio astronomy-related research and home to the Lovell Telescope, one of the biggest and most powerful radio telescopes in the world.
