Kielder's dark sky bid backed

A BID to create England's first Dark Sky Park at Kielder has won the backing of the world-renowned Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics in Manchester.
Kielder Water and Forest Park Development Trust, Northumberland National Park Authority and Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society are applying for an area - which would cover 400 square miles of Northumberland - to be given Dark Sky status.
If successful, Northumberland National Park would be designated Europe's largest Dark Sky Reserve.
Jodrell Bank is a world leader in radio astronomy-related research and home to the Lovell Telescope, one of the biggest and most powerful radio telescopes in the world.
