Honour for Riding Mill firm

A RIDING Mill-based engineering company which supplies the offshore markets has been recognised with an award for innovation.

NOF Energy, the business support organisation for oil, gas, nuclear and offshore renewables, has named OSBIT Power (OP) as the winner of its Innovation and Technology Award 2012.

The award comes in recognition of OP’s development and commercial introduction of its MaXccess offshore access system, which provides safer, more weather tolerant, access to offshore wind farms.
The company is based at Broomhaugh House and after it was established in 2010 by one of the co-founders of the Engineering Business, Dr Tony Trapp, it set out to create a robust solution to the continuing problem of safely accessing wind turbines in harsh conditions.

Over 2,000 people attended the Temperance Gala held at Greencroft Park, Haltwhistle.

Led by the Bardon Mill Brass Band, 12 temperance societies paraded through the town, prior to an open air meeting in the park.

During the event the Rev. J.M. Russel condemned the House of Commons for rejecting a proposal to increase taxes on spirits and beer.
