Hexham mayor defends council's record

HEXHAM'S mayor has rounded on critics who have called for the town council to be scrapped.
And rather than making “unhelpful and unacceptable” jibes from the sidelines, Coun Rad Hare has challenged them to put themselves up for election.
The call to abolish the council came from Mike Parker, a member of the group which has been working on the Hexham Town Plan.
He and other group members were furious that the town council had made no specific provision for the plan's further development in this year’s budget.
But Coun. Hare said it was "simply not true" that the council would not support the town plan financially, and added: “Rather than making disparaging remarks about councillors, Mr Parker should remember we were all elected by the townspeople of Hexham."
