ON TUESDAY at their weekly sale Hexham Auction Mart had forward 102 cattle, which included eight young bulls and 53 over 30 month animals. Prime cattle slightly easier on the week. Prime cattle prices. Steers per head: Charolais to £1,332.84 and £1,328.69 Flotterton. Blonde to £1,292.20, £1,269.04, £1,190.12 and £1,184.86 Low Leam. Heifers per head: Limousin to £1,025.48 Hallington New Houses and £1,019.43 Keepwick. Steer prices per kilo: Blonde to 177.5p, 176.5p, 174.5p and 173.5p Low Leam. Charolais to 168.5p Flotterton. Hexham and Northern Marts sold on Tuesday, 1,628 prime sheep, which comprised of 1,317 hoggs and 311 ewes and rams.
A mixed selection of hoggs met a more selective enquiry and following the national trend were easier on the week. Only the very best quality maintained last weeks trade, selling to 215.9p/kg for Beltex x hoggs from Warkshaugh. Heavy hoggs sold to £100 for Pure Texels from West Morralee. ON FRIDAY, at their weekly sale Hexham and Northern Marts had forward 730 store cattle and suckled calves at their weekly sale.
Hexham continues to be THE centre in the North of England for forward cattle with today’s sale featuring a superb selection of strong steers and heifers of all breeds. A grand total of 125 cattle got into four figures this week. The sale was topped at £1,215 by an outstanding Charolais x steer from Barharrow, Castle Douglas. Young cattle continued to sell well beyond sellers expectations with 14 month Charolais x steers selling to £1,200 from Edlingham Newtown whose consignment of 18 Charolais steers, all 14/15 months averaged £1,017. Heifers sold to £1,025 for Aberdeen Angus x from the same home, while Limousin x heifers sold to £992 from Tonehall. Cattle prices. Cattle 30 months plus: Blonde steers to £905 Prenwick.
