Weekly mart reports

FOR their weekly sale on Tuesday, Hexham Auction Mart had forward 95 cattle, which included 27 bulls and 75 over 30 month animals. All classes a similar trade to previous week.

There were 1,728 prime sheep forward on Tuesday, which comprised of 1,391 hoggs and 337 ewes and rams. A more mixed selection of hoggs met another sharp trade. Heavy hoggs were marginally easier and sold to a top of £99 for Pure Texels weighing 48 kilos from Nilston Rigg. Export types continued to be good to sell to a top of 222.4p/kg for a super pen of Pure Texels weighing 38kilos from East Middle Farm, Hawick. Prime hogg prices. ON FRIDAY, Hexham Auction Mart had forward 708 store cattle. Another tremendous show of cattle met a superb trade with over 55 cattle making over £1,000. Quality forward cattle sold to £1270 for a fantastic three-quarter Limousin steer from Blackburn. Heifers sold to £945 for two fabulous Limousin’s from Stotsfold. Young cattle sold to £1,000 for a pen of five, 15 month three-quarter Limousin steers from Stotsfold with heifers selling to £942 for Charolais x heifers from Tonehall. A feature of the sale was a superb run of mainly 20 month old Charolais x steers from Claywalls which averaged £1,094.

Hexham and Northern Marts on Friday, sold 1,402 store hoggs, cast sheep and in-lamb ewes. The first show of in-lamb ewes met with an encouraging trade for three and four crop warranted ewes, scanned carrying triplets. Three to four crop: Texel to £124 Millfield Demesne. Suffolk to £112 Millfield Demesne. Mule to £95 and £89 Millfield Demesne. Store ewes had a smaller show of cast sheep which sold well. Another good entry of hoggs met with increased demand. Many types as much as £12 to £15 up on the week. A total of 22 consignments achieved £80 and above per head to a top of £88 for hoggs from Dilston Haugh, Low Staples, Ellfoot and Blakelaw. AT THEIR fortnightly Longtown sale on Tuesday, the Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart had forward 134 store cattle. More grass cattle were on offer saw an outstanding trade and with plenty of keen bidders in attendance double the numbers could have been sold to vendors advantage. Top price of the day of £860 for British Blue bullocks from J.H. Robinson and Son, Redgate Head, with Limousin heifers to £825 from A. and A. Ewing, Dumbretton.
