Thereis no shame in failure

WE seem to live in a quick fix generation where everyone and everything has to be perfect. No one is allowed to criticise or mention the ‘F’ word.
Before I get complaints I had better explain. Failure is the unmentionable word. The other ‘f’ word is said far too frequently.
Our schools are held to ransom; always having to raise their performance. Getting better is not what it should be about.
Everyone involved with children and young people should help them to be the best they can be. They should also help them to accept their shortcomings too.
There is no shame in failing an examination when you have tried your best. I failed art O-level three times. No amount of telling me it was easy could raise my game. I tried my best and was found wanting.
English and maths came easily yet I know many who struggled. We should get away from measuring ability with one ruler.
I learned about words by hearing stories and talking about them long before I went to school. I learned lots of words by playing Scrabble with my family.
I learned to enjoy numbers by playing dominoes and cards before I was 10.
Children grow up far too quickly. Enjoy them while you can.
Our complex world is a wonderful place
It can be both interesting and frightening
Help us to understand as much as we can
Eager to face a challenge without fear
