Birds tune up for start of spring

HAVE you noticed how all the animals and birds are getting lively?
My chickens have been doing a great deal of chasing and pecking. The smallest is the real boss. She chased a rabbit yesterday.
I only hope the dogs were watching as they are totally useless on rabbit patrol. In fact my biggest dog runs away from the chickens.
That is crazy as he should be able to have them for lunch and still be hungry.
The morning feeding routine is very pleasant as I can see where I am going. Two weeks ago I twisted my knee again by tripping over a chicken. Face down, full length in the mud is no joke.
I’m sure the whole brood was laughing at me. They were certainly cackling.
I have not seen any mad March hares yet but a very confused sparrow hawk could not have been pleased when it thumped into the lounge window. It sat with outspread wings with a dazed expression for a while and then flew off.
The birds of prey are out and about which must be a sign that spring is on the way at last.
I heard a woodpecker drumming and the dawn chorus is beginning to strike up the band.
At last there is enough daylight to complete the evening chores too.
As daylight hours increase
New growth springs up all around
May we have time to watch the changing scene
Giving us enthusiasm and a sense of purpose
