A NEWLY opened dog rehabilitation centre in Tynedale, caring for pets with disabling conditions, has revealed an innovative and wet pain-relief method.
Tynedale K9 Hydrotherapy, based at Vallum Farm, near Stamfordham, is the first centre in the UK to unveil a state-of-the-art Physio-Tech Underwater K9 rehabilitation treadmill to help dogs that suffer from disabilities, such as arthritis, spinal injuries and obesity.
The centre, which opened a few weeks ago, uses the treadmills and a hydrotherapy pool to introduce the dogs to exercise without causing undue stress to joints that are unable to bear too much weight.
Centre owner Lynne Ballard said: “As a dog owner for more than 20 years, I have always been interested in animal rehabilitation.
“My personal experience of encountering animals left weak or infirm enabled me to recognise a niche in the provision of health care treatment for dogs and a lack of any such service within the Tynedale area.”
Lynne joined the British Veterinary Nurse Association last year and attended Hawksmoor Hydrotherapy Training Centre to do a hydrotherapy course.
After gaining her qualification, she decided to expand on her newly found passion and consulted Business Link about starting up her own business.
She continues to receive advice and support from the organisation as she looks to diversify her business by becoming a Physio-Tech Underwater K9 rehabilitation treadmill dealer.
Business Link account manager Judith Falla said:“Lynne is a fabulous example of turning a passion into a business. She is driving her dream of rehabilitating dogs into a business reality.”
Tynedale K9 Hydrotherapy can be contacted on (01434) 672 751.
