A69 crash victim named

POLICE have named a man who died when his car overturned on the A69 in Tynedale on Saturday.

Colin Thomas Swan (50) of Wansford Way, Whickham, was pronounced dead at the scene when the Mercedes he was driving veered across the west-bound carriageway and hit a bridge parapet near the Ovington turn-off.
The crash happened at 7.20am and the westbound A69 was closed for more that three hours while investigation teams worked to establish the cause of the accident.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved and inquiries are continuing.
Anyone who witnesses what happened is being asked to contact officers on 101 ext 69191.

Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, Sir Charles Trevelyan unveiled a series of murals at Acomb Youth Hostel which had been painted by pupils of King Edward VII School in Newcastle.

Sir Charles commented that membership of the Tyneside Hostel Movement, which included the Acomb hostel, was expanding rapidly and there were plans to open another hostel at Twice Brewed on the Military Road.
