The Forum Cinema Hexham has started a crowdfunder to pay for people with additional needs to make short films.

The cinema plans to show the films on the big screen as part of a mini film festival.

The crowdfunding campaign page promises 'a celebration of spectacular joy'.

"If you are not going to be represented on the big screen then you had better do it yourself!!" it says.

Marketing officer of The Forum Cinema Hexham, Chris Kelly, said the film festival will  "empower individuals with additional needs to express themselves through the art of filmmaking, while celebrating their unique voices and experiences."

The Forum Cinema has teamed up with Spacehive for the cinema inclusion project.

The Priory School Hexham, Gateway into the Community, Stage Fright CIC, and WeCan will be working alongside the project.

The Forum Cinema Hexham's started the project with a small pilot in 2023 and have since committed to making the mini film festival an annual event.
