People in the North East and North Cumbria at increased risk from Covid-19 will be offered additional protection through a free NHS spring booster vaccine.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised the booster for those most susceptible to severe illness from the virus, including individuals aged 75 and over, care home residents for older adults, and anyone immunosuppressed aged six months and over.
Dr Catherine Monaghan, NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board medical director, said: "The Covid-19 vaccine remains our best protection against the virus and this year's spring booster programme will continue to focus on those at greatest risk of getting seriously ill, who will benefit the most from getting a further dose."
Vaccinations will start for care home residents on April 15 and for those over 75 and immunosuppressed from April 22.
