An Abbey Park tree that was ceremonially planted as a symbol of the historic Hexham-Hawick link almost 10 years ago has sadly not survived.
Northumberland County Councillor Trevor Cessford, who was part of the party who was involved in the initial ceremony, has successfully sourced a replacement tree.
A request to the town council has also allowed him to purchase a new plaque as well.
Cllr Cessford arranged for both the tree and plaque to be replaced.
A delegation of a dozen representatives from the Hawick Provosts Council will soon travel to witness the restored commemorational site.
