CHRISTMAS lights were switched on in two communities last week.
The Prudhoe Christmas light switch-on at Front Street was organised by Prudhoe Town Council on December 1, as festive lights were also switched on at West Wylam.
The Prudhoe Co-op served complimentary festive treats of mulled wine and mince pies to audiences watching Santa and professional party entertainer, Mister Disco Man.
Gordon Stewart, councillor for Prudhoe south ward, said: "The Prudhoe community spirit at its best! There has been so much excitement leading up to this magical event which brings so many local people, visitors, businesses and groups together to celebrate and smile."
Students from the Prudhoe school Adderlane Academy were also invited to participate in the light switch-on.
Emma Potts, headteacher of Adderlane Academy, said: "We were thrilled to be asked to take part in the Prudhoe Town Christmas Light Switch on. It is a wonderful tradition in our town and attracts a great crowd. It really is the start of our Christmas celebrations here at Adderlane. As always the children were amazing and the staff were incredibly proud of them."
Jane Johnson, a West Wylam town councillor, said: "Thank you to Prudhoe Town Council and town clerk Shirley Ann for helping me with these festive lights and also Northumberland County Council for putting up this display."
