TICKETS are now on sale as a new president has been elected for the region's next county show in 2024.

Tynedale Agricultural Society, which organises the Northumberland County Show, voted Chris Chomse as its new president at its annual general meeting last week.

Mr Chomse has taken over from David Carr for a three-year tenure in the role.

Chris, of Hexhamshire, is known as area sales manager for Carrs Billington and, with his daughter Jo-Jo, is a longstanding chief steward of the popular Shearing Section at Northumberland County Show.

He has served on the management committee and was show chairman from 2013-16.

David Carr, who has been president since 2019, was honoured with a Life Membership to the Show for his service. He said: “I’m delighted to hand over the reins to Chris. He is a great asset to the Show and I know he’ll do a great job. For myself, I have had a fantastic time as president, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone for many years to come.”

New committee members also include Martin Harper; Gemma Common; Mark Robson; Lynda Parkin, David Corbett and Hannah Pigg, who have all volunteered at the Show.

The County Show this year saw record attendance figures and a strong financial performance.

Chairman Mark Scandle thanked secretary Kerry Robson for her hard work throughout the last year and the improvements she is introducing for the 2024 show.

Kerry said: “We will be looking closely to make improvements with the extension of our braille signage next year, and a sign language expert will offer informative commentary in the Alpaca Section. We will have an adult changing facility available, and a quiet area for those with any form of neurodiversity or who simply need a place to avoid sensory overload."

Next year’s Northumberland County Show will be held on May 25 and feature the main arena spectacle Free Spirits, a display of stallions and falcons working together in a choreographed performance.

In the livestock sections, new sheep classes for non-accredited Texels will attract new exhibitors; llamas will be on display in the Alpaca marquee for the first time; and Junior Driven Two Wheeled Cart Classes for 13-18-year olds are new in the Heavy Horse Section.

Anyone interested in volunteering, or would like information on getting involved, can contact the Show Office on 01434 604216, or email secretary Kerry Robson at kerry@northcountyshow.co.uk.
