A WOMAN has been praised for her passion for knitting as it is used in a community Remembrance Day display.

Christine McLetchie, a resident of Ponteland Manor has honoured the request of the Ponteland mayor to use her knitting talent to create dozens of poppies for a community Remembrance Day display in the town.

Speaking of her passion for knitting, Christine said: “We celebrated 25 years of Ponteland Manor earlier this year, and the Mayor spoke with me about the knitting I had displayed in our art gallery for the occasion.

"She suggested it would be wonderful to knit poppies to commemorate the fallen in November, so I’ve done just that.

“I love knitting as it keeps me active and busy. It was a pleasure to make the poppies and I’m pleased that others are getting joy from my creations.”

Paula Routledge, Home Manager at Ponteland Manor, said: “I’m so proud of Christine – she is a fabulous person who always wants to give back to our local community.

“Christine has always loved her knitting, but this piece of work is exceptional because of what it stands for. Remembrance Day can hold a very special meaning to residents, as well as to the community, as some may have served in the forces or heard stories from their loved ones.

“We will be hosting several Remembrance Day events at the home for residents, their families, and the community to join and pay their respects.”
