A TYNEDALE museum has appeared in a popular traveller series with a Scottish comedian.

Eagle-eyed Hexham residents and fans of the Museum of Classic Sci-Fi, owned by Neil Cole in Allendale, will have spotted the popular tourist spot on  ‘Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out’ on Friday, October 6. A series that has now entered its fifth season on Channel 5.

Upon welcoming the well-known visitor, Neil had to keep the visit top secret despite Susan's small, decorated camper van with the name of ‘Helen Mirren’ arriving at his door.

Neil said: "Susan Calman was filming for an episode travelling around Northumberland, with the latter section based in and around the North Pennines and Northumberland.

The production team was keen to complete the Northumberland leg of filming with a visit to the ‘Museum of Classic Sci-Fi’ created and curated by Neil, a Doctor Who historian, monster restorer, and all-round artist.

Neil adds: "I took Susan on a guided tour of the museum with a variety of stops by some key exhibits recorded especially for the programme.

"We got into a heated debate about which exhibit had more merit – a ‘K-9’ or surviving ‘Sea-Devil’ arm from Jon Pertwee’s classic story – ‘The Sea Devils’ (1972).

"It was quite surreal seeing the coloured corridors of the museum appear on the television.  "Ultimately they were all delighted with how the museum appeared and how the many years of hard work had paid off in creating a unique attraction for the North East."
