THE workshop programme for an annual folk festival has been announced.
The three-day Allen Valleys Folk Festival will mark its tenth year with a programme of eight workshops celebrating music, dance and heritage, featuring some of the best live folk music acts from across the UK.
Established and up-and-coming artists will perform in various venues in Allendale from Friday, September 22 until Sunday, September 24.
Venues include St Cuthbert’s Church Hall, The Forge Café, The King’s Head and Allendale Village Hall.
Workshop organiser Nick Pepper said: "We’ve added some new workshops this year including, for the first time, spoken word. This gives festival-goers the opportunity to make the most of their festival weekend."
Join a yoga session with Julia Marshall; an introduction to sound sculpture with Simon Knighton; a crash course in clog dancing courtesy of Hadrian Clog; handbell tuition with Elizabeth Beardsley, and a sea shanty workshop with The Aukland Shanty Singers on Saturday, September 23.
The programme continues on Sunday, with a creative writing workshop led by local author Caitlin Kendall, and storytelling, song and sound with Karine Polwart in a session aimed at children aged 4-8 and their families.
The sea shanty workshop repeats on Sunday.
Most workshops are free but places must be booked via the festival website avff.co.uk.
