A SWEET shop is celebrating one year of business.

Emma Harrison, owner of Emma's Coffee & Sweets, opened her business in Allendale Market Place in August 2022.

Her daughters, Franchesca, 21, and Cordelia, 20, help with the business.

Franchesca manages the Facebook social media account, designs the menus and also designed the businesses' signage and logo, while Cordelia bakes scones every day.

Emma said: “I always wanted a sweet shop, it was a dream of mine since I was younger.

"I grew up in Allendale and I’ve worked in the village for a number of years. Once this premise became available, my family and I had the idea to open an old-fashioned sweet shop and coffee shop. With the help of my family, we designed and renovated the interior, added new signage and opened on August 14.

"Since then, we have received an overwhelming amount of support from local people and businesses who have shown us that the community spirit of Allendale is still strong even after Covid. With Cordelia’s scones selling out daily and the sweets being a conversation starter, we hoped to offer something for all ages.

"We have also been able to source some of the products we use and sell from local suppliers, this has made our relationships with the businesses in surrounding areas stronger.

"We also support the local pantomime, the Allen Valley Folk Festival, the Allendale May Fair and the Allendale Lions. We have come such a long way over the last 12 months and we are eternally grateful for all the wonderful customers that have visited us time and time again. We hope to continue to bring that little bit of sweetness to the Allendale Market Place for many years to come."
