ONE person was taken to hospital following a six-vehicle crash across both lanes of the A69 yesterday evening.

The incident, which took place between Hexham and Haydon Bridge, happened at around 5.30pm on Thursday (April 20).

Emergency services attended the scene where both lanes of traffic were blocked by multiple cars.

One driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The eastbound lane re-opened just before 7pm, and the westbound lane followed just before 9pm.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in the A69 shortly after 5.30pm this evening.

“We dispatched one ambulance crew and transported one patient to hospital for further treatment.”

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Shortly before 5.45pm yesterday (Thursday), we received a report from North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) who were in attendance at a six-vehicle collision across both lanes of the A69 between Haydon Bridge and Hexham.

“Emergency services attended and the scene where both lanes of traffic were blocked by multiple cars.

“One driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Thankfully, no-one else is believed to have been injured.

“The eastbound lane re-opened just before 7pm, and the westbound lane followed just before 9pm.
