Members of the public are invited to attend a special service being held in Hexham Abbey in May to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

The County Service of Celebration will take place on Sunday, May 7 starting at 6.30pm and is expected to last around an hour.

There will be a welcome by The Reverend David Glover, Chaplain to the King, followed by prayers, hymns and readings and singing by Hexham Abbey Choir.

The Duchess of Northumberland in her capacity as Lord Lieutenant for Northumberland - The King’s official representative for the county – will be giving a reading.

Additionally, there will also be a reading by the High Sheriff of Northumberland, Diana Barkes, and a sermon by the new Bishop of Newcastle Dr Helen-Ann Hartley.

The Duchess of Northumberland said: “Everyone is welcome to attend this special service, whether or not you are a regular church-goer and whatever your faith, please come along.

"The Coronation of King Charles III is a momentous event in our history and the service is going to be a wonderful occasion when we can all come together as a community to celebrate the beginning of the reign of our new monarch.”

For those who are unable to attend, the service will be screened live by Hexham Abbey.
