FIVE young people from Allendale will jump from a plane to see more money raised for extra care provision in the village.
Mark Charlton, Sarah Watson, Suzanne Pringle, Molly Moore and Lewis Archer are doing a skydive to see Deneholme - a former activities and conference centre - converted into a residential care home, day care unit and home care base.
Linda Charlton took over the Fawside Foundation-owned site around a year ago and is now raising money to bring the property up to date.
It comes after conversion work has been carried out to create 12 ensuite bedrooms costing in excess of £100,000.
Linda is the owner of Thornley Leazes, a privately owned residential home for adults with learning difficulties and additional needs.
The home also runs a domiciliary care service in Allendale and neighbouring Catton.
“It’s such an exciting project and will be a massive asset to the local community and surrounding area”, said Linda, who worked at Thornley Leazes for 30 years before taking on its management nearly 10 years ago. “With the crisis in case, beds are very difficult to find, so to have something within Allendale would be amazing.
"We could fill both homes tomorrow, we have so many enquiries about beds. We want to be able to provide a service in the local area.
"To be able to get absolutely everything we would love to have and provide, including a defibrillator, we are probably looking at raising in the region of another £50,000.
“It’s an amazing thing for these young’uns to do for us to try and get this facility. The community is amazing, they always support us."
The project has been largely self-funded but supported by donations from parish councils and fundraising activities through group Friends of Deneholme.
Linda added: “We have already completed the daycare side of the building and this has already started along with our lunch club on alternate Mondays.
“We are also offering a warm space and are able to have space for training courses.”
The skydive on April 23 is sponsored by RnM Gas Services, H.E Servicing, Wright Bros Coaches, Thornley Leazes and Pollards Prime.
