Tynedale: Campaign steps up

FARM workers are stepping up a campaign against a wage reform which they say will erode their living standards.

Protests were made at an Oxford conference addressed by Environment Secretary Owen Paterson.

In a pre-Christmas announcement, Mr Paterson said the Agricultural Wages Board (AWB) would be abolished this year.

The Unite union said the board offered important safeguards to farm workers.
